Upstate New York Police Need Horse for Mounted Unit; Can You Help?
Saratoga Springs is known for many things including its legendary nightlife, spectacular state parks, iconic concert venues, world-class spas, and of course, horses.
The Spa City's long, legendary love affair with equines goes back hundreds of years as the home of the legendary Saratoga Race Course, considered by many to be America's crown jewel of racetracks.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department is looking to add a four-legged officer to its ranks and has asked residents of Upstate New York to help.
Do you own a horse or know someone who does?

Looking for a "Hero in Horseshoes"
The Saratoga Springs Police Department is adding a horse to its Mounted Unit and is looking for "a brave, steady horse ready" to patrol Spa City.
In the news release they said they're specifically looking for a "calm, intelligent, people-person horse to join our Mounted Unit. This special horse will help us build connections, keep our city safe, and—probably—steal all the attention."
The Ideal Police Horse:
- Solid WTC, no restarts needed
- Traffic-safe and bombproof (because sirens, parades, and Caroline Street, etc)
- Just a chill guy (remains calm in busy environments)
- A+ brain with no vices (no drama please!)
- Between 5-12 years old and 16-18 hands tall
- The perfect horse within 4 hours of Saratoga Springs, and would like a 30-60-day trial period (including being fully vetted). Upon retirement, previous owners would have first right of refusal.
Please message or contact Sergeant Jenna Hiltz at jhiltz@saratogapolice.org if you have their next Mounted Unit Member!
