Upstate NY Man Wows ‘The Voice’ Judges

Season 28 of NBC’s The Voice just got a dose of Upstate New York soul, and now we have a bit of a rooting interest as the show gets cooking.
During the "Blind Auditions" on Monday night, 30-year-old Liam von Elbe from Plattsburgh, New York, took the stage and performed a stunning version of John Mayer’s “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," and instantly grabbed the judges’ attention.

Von Elbe, who currently calls Nashville, TN, his home, used his rich tone and effortless high notes to earn chair turns from both Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg, and by the time the last note faded, the audience (and millions watching at home) knew they’d just witnessed something special.

What the Judges Said

Niall Horan couldn’t hide his admiration, telling Liam:

“I'm sorry for that guy or girl that you do audio engineering for, 'cause they're probably not as good as you. Honestly, I've got goosebumps just sittin' here. That was beautiful. I'd love to stick headphones on and just listen to a whole album of that.”

Snoop Dogg followed with equal praise:

“The sound of your voice was mesmerizing...it was kinetic. You're the whole package.”

In the end, Liam chose Team Niall, setting up what could be one of the most exciting journeys of the season.
