New Crossgates Mall Store Grand Opening Set For This Weekend

The Capital Region's newest sporting goods and outdoor store is getting ready for a big opening celebration.

While other malls across the nation continue to struggle in the brick-and-mortar retail space, our local favorite, Crossgates Mall, is continuing to buck that trend as the area's premier shopping and entertainment destination gets ready to welcome another new retailer. In recent months they announced the arrival of a new variety store called MINISIO, Primark arrived last year as a new anchor store, among others. Now REI, a sporting goods and outdoor gear store, will celebrate its grand opening this weekend.

REI Is Coming To Crossgates Mall

Recreational Equipment, INC., better known as REI, is a sporting goods store that sells what Crossgates Malls says is "...a wide assortment of apparel and gear for camping, cycling, hiking, running, fitness, paddling, snow sports, and more." The store is a co-op that already has 42,000 Capital Region members who receive benefits like free shipping, discounts, trade-ins on used gear, and more.

REI's Crossgates Grand Opening Celebration Plans

According to a press release from Crossgates Mall, REI will celebrate its grand opening this weekend, Friday, August 23rd through Sunday, August 25th.  The store will open at 9 am each day through the weekend with special activities outside the store from 1 to 5 pm including music, vendors, and more. There will be on-site perks as well for co-op members!
