As a graduate from the University of Florida, Gatorade is kind of like the fountain of youth to me. It's a magical elixir that cools you down, cures hangovers, and replenishes your electrolytes.

Unfortunately, amidst a wave of recalls, everyone's favorite sports drink has joined the ranks of the FDA's Most Wanted...

Gatorade Recall

This all started on September 25th, when the Food and Drug Administration initiated recall procedures on certain Gatorades that had made their way into the public. On October 2nd, it was officially bumped to a Class II recall, meaning that, according to the FDA, "...use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote".

Why the Recall?

The FDA has stated that the recall is due to undeclared Yellow No. 6 and/or Yellow No. 5 being put in certain drinks. If consumed, it leads to the possibility of allergic-type asthma or mild rashes. Luckily, this is incredibly uncommon in the general population, and should only affect those who suffer from allergic reactions to Asprin.

What to Avoid

37 states have been affected by the recall, including New York. Through these over 122,000 cases have been recalled, specifically Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero.

The lot dates given on these drinks are either from April 2027, May 2027 and June 2027. At the moment, Gatorade outside of the listed flavors and dates is safe to consume, but check for yourself before purchase or consumption.
