Obviously, no, it's not super easy to get a firearm. There are restrictions galore which can push some people out of purchasing, which is where more dubious methods come into play.

3D Printing Firearms

On January 8, 2025, 42-year-old Demetrio Daga was arrested in Albany. This was the result of an investigation that had lasted a year, and finally culminated in multiple search warrants being executed by New York State Police.

Daga was arrested with a loaded 9mm ghost handgun, which confirmed the suspicion that he was manufacturing ghost guns on his own. Two residencies were found to hold evidence, and it was a lot of evidence.

The Evidence and Charges

It was determined that Daga had been manufacturing firearms with a 3D printer for some time. In his two properties, State Troopers found:

  • Multiple 3D printers (one of which was actively printing a handgun lower receiver)
  • (13) handguns (ghost guns)
  • (22) AR-style assault rifles (ghost guns)
  • (18) serialized AR-style assault rifles
  • (2) pump style shotguns
  • Over (200) 3D-printed lower handgun receivers and rifle frames.
  • Thousands of rounds of various ammunition
  • Numerous high-capacity magazines in various calibers
  • Miscellaneous gun parts
  • Miscellaneous gun manufacturing devices
  • Computers, documents, and other electronic devices associated with the manufacturing of PMF’s
  • Body armor

He was charged with (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the 1st Degree, subsection 2, 10 or more firearms (B Felony) and (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the 2nd Degree subsection 3, Loaded Firearm (C Felony), and was indicted on February 2nd.
