
3 Injured when Car Hits Horse-Drawn Buggy in Upstate New York
Vehicle Crashes into Buggy in Upstate NY
A car traveling in Upstate New York collided with an Amish horse and buggy on Wednesday, ejecting the driver and two passengers while gravely injuring the horse, according to a report from the New York State Police.
The unfortunate incident occurred Wednesday afternoon in Clayton, about three hours north of Albany.
The report states that the investigation revealed that a 2023 Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound on County Route 3 when it struck a horse-drawn buggy westbound on County Route 3.
The operator and two passengers of the horse-drawn buggy were ejected after being struck.
The report states that all three people inside the horse-drawn buggy were treated by EMS on scene and transported to Samaritan Hospital by ambulance.

Two of Those Injured Were Children
According to the New York State Police, two of those victims were young children. Among those treated were a five-year-old and a four-year-old, who were then transferred from Samaritan Hospital to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries.
In addition to the injuries to the travelers, the horse was seriously injured and treated and removed by a veterinarian on scene.
The operator of the Dodge Challenger was not injured.

According to sources, New York State has the fifth-largest Amish population in the nation, with over 24,000 people spread across nearly 60 settlements.
While the Amish population isn't particularly prevalent in Clayton, there is an Amish Farm Stand in Watertown, NY, near Clayton.
