FBI Warning: Hackers Are Stealing Your Intimate Images

FBI WARNING! Your intimate pictures could end up posted on social media without you even realizing it. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is alerting the public about sexual exploitation actors targeting victims by illegally accessing their social media and personal accounts to steal and post their explicit content and posting them for sale on criminal marketplaces.

Most victims don't even know this is happening. This can lead to serious trouble, like blackmail, stalking, or harassment. Sometimes, criminals even post the stolen material on the person's own social media to target them further.

Criminals use tricks and hacking to steal private, explicit pictures and videos from people. They target specific individuals or just look for anyone they can easily exploit.

To make things worse, criminals often post the victim's personal information, like their name, email, phone number, and social media handle, right next to the pictures. Can you imagine if this were to happen to you or your loved ones?

Through investigation, the FBI observed Sexual Exploitation actors using various tactics including:

• Password and PIN Targeting - Using high volume password and PIN attempts on social media and personal accounts based on curated lists obtained from a variety of sources.
• Social Media Customer Service Impersonations - Criminals send victims text messages stating their social media account is being disabled or locked unless they respond with a verification code. DO NOT offer your password or allow a password reset.
