Crossgates Mall In Albany Has Been Taken Over By These Can Statues, But Why?
What's with all these cans? There is something 'uncanny' happening at Crossgates Mall, 1 Crossgates Mall Road in Albany. There are can statues on display throughout the mall depicting everything from pop culture to local landmarks. You have to take a look at the pictures below. These are awesome!
You might ask yourself, what 'can' be happening at Crossgates? It's the 14th Capital Region CANstruction event, to help feed the hungry, going on now through Monday May 19th.
The Capital Region CANstruction, with support from Market 32 and Price Chopper, found talented teams to turn canned food into art. Wait until you see this display! Once the exhibit ends on May 19th the cans will be donated to The Food Pantries for the Capital District.
Stop by Crossgates Mall during regular business hours to learn more about the crews that created each statue, the sponsors and the stories behind each display. Your donation of canned goods is encouraged.
How cool is that recreation of the marque at the Palace Theatre in Albany! Each structure is made entirely of canned goods and these displays require at least 4,000 cans to complete.
You can even vote for your favorite display. Bring canned goods such as tuna, beans, soup, etc. Leave your donations at the display you think is best. There are receptacles at each exhibit and you can get a sneak-peak below.
We’re so thankful for our amazing shoppers who always show up to give back. It’s an event we’re proud to be part of, and we can’t wait to see this year’s creations! - Leslie Mugrace, Marketing Director at Crossgates
