One person is dead, and 8 others are injured, following a car accident on the New York State Thruway in Albany.

The accident in question took place on Monday December 1st at approximately 6:45pm, before this latest snow storm began in the Capital Region. With that in mind, please travel with caution today, and throughout the fall and winter seasons, your life could change in an instant. Here is what happened.

According to a New York State Police press release, on Monday December 1st at approximately 6:45pm, State Police Troop T responded to a serious personal injury crash involving two passenger vehicles at Exit 24 on the NYS Thruway.

Exit 24 of the New York State Thruway is a major junction where I-87 and I-90 East meet. In this area, drivers can access several Albany destinations, such as Albany International Airport.

The New York State Troopers preliminary investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was entering the Thruway from an on-ramp but was allegedly blocking the path of Vehicle 2. At this point Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 1.

Vehicle 1 contained two adults and three minors. Vehicle 2 contained four adults. The operator of Vehicle 1 was transported to Albany Medical Center and was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased operator has been identified as Braylynn S. Fahy, age 30, of Fort Plain. The investigation has determined Ms. Fahy, who was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, merged onto I-90 westbound from the Exit 24 acceleration ramp, crossed all lanes of travel and was struck by a westbound 2025 Cadillac Escalade traveling in the left lane.

The remaining adult and the minors in Vehicle 1, as well as the adults in Vehicle 2 were all transported to Albany Medical Center.
