How Much Is a School Zone Speeding Fine in Albany?

School is back in session, or quickly getting back in session for people around the Capital Region. That would include Albany. That also means that the speed zone cameras will be active once again for the City of Albany so you need to watch your speed.

Reminder - school speed limit in Albany is 20mph and the City speed limit is 25mph. The other day while I was on Western Ave going past Eagle Point Elementary someone blew past me and it indicated they were going 45mph. 25 over the school zone limit, and 20 over the regular speed limit. That's just reckless.

How much is the school zone speeding fine in Albany, NY?

According to the Albany's Safer Streets FAQ the fine for speeding is $50. Of course, that is $50 for each time you speed. With how many people are driving in and out of the city that could result in some big profits for Albany, and back in May of 2025 it was reported that at that time the city made $3.2 million from speed zone violations.

A violation is a civil penalty of $50 and does not get reported to the State of NY or your insurance company. An additional late fee of $25 will be added if not paid by the due date.

I think it was a smart move for the Mayor and city to remind folks that these cameras will once again be active. In total there are 21 total school zones around the city where you could face a fine.
