New York Yankees’ Fans Ejected in First Inning Wasted This Amount of Money
Four outs. Seven at-bats. One-and-one-third innings. That is all Austin Capobianco and John Peter saw of World Series Game 4 at Yankee Stadium.
Capobianco and Peter were sitting down the right field foul line at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night, as Gleyber Torres stepped to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Torres hit a lazy fly ball down the line, and it began to twist its way toward their seats.
Then, this happened:
In one of the most bizarre athlete-fan interactions we've ever seen, Capobianco grabbed the glove of Dodgers' right fielder Mookie Betts, and attempted to pry the ball, which had been caught, loose.
Peter, sitting to his left, aided and abetted Capobianco's thievery by grabbing Betts' other hand.
Umpire Mark Carlson, who immediately recognized the blatant fan interference, called the batter out on the play.
Capobianco and Peter were then quickly tossed from Yankee Stadium for their actions, which led them to a local bar, where they spoke with ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

As noted by Rogers, Capobianco is a season-ticket holder, so he didn't have to buy tickets from a third-party distributor on the day of the game. Still, those seats were worth four figures, and they had to leave before Juan Soto or Aaron Judge even stepped to the plate for the first time.
That's quite a way to lose a few thousand dollars.
For context, these are the prices for tickets in that general area for Game 5 of the World Series:
To paraphrase a MasterCard commercial:
"Two front-row tickets to a Yankees' World Series game? About $3,000.
Getting kicked out after interfering with Mookie Betts and becoming a legend among Yankees' fans? Priceless."
