When will Jaxson Dart make his first start?
New York Giant fans rejoiced in April after watching their team deliver the best first round they've seen in years. Despite having the 3rd overall pick the Giants selected arguably the most individually talented player in the draft, but they did not stop there.
The G-men sent over the 34th, 99th and a 2026 third round pick to the Houston Texans for the 25th overall and selected quarterback Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss to be the quarterback of the future. Following one playoff win in six years with Daniel Jones, the bar is not set very high.
Unlike Daniel Jones, Dart has the luxury of not needing to start right away, and has a rare opportunity to learn from a super bowl champion in veteran starter Russell Wilson. But at what point does Jaxson Dart earn that starting job? It may be sooner than you think.
Jaxson Dart did everything in his power in his three preseason appearances to put his name in the hat for the starting quarterback job. Dart completed 68% of his passes for 372 yards and 4 touchdown. Most importantly, the Giants won 3 games in a row, something they haven't done since Tommy Devito's linsanity moment in 2023.
Brian Daboll obviously holds the final decision, but it's footballs worst kept secret that Daboll's job is in jeopardy if the Giants don't have a complete turnaround from the 3 wins they got all of last year. If the pressure is put on Daboll, I would not be surprised if he makes a quick change to Dart to try and possibly delay the inevitable.
With games against playoff teams in 6 of their first 8 weeks, a few quick losses could pile up quick, and we could see Jaxson Dart start his first game as early as midseason.
